Alvin Fate


 Alvin Coleman Fate, Sr., 85, of 122 Courtland Ave., died Thursday, January 12, 2012.

He was a native of Tattnall County, Ga. and a son of the late Coleman and Leressie Smith Fate.

He was a chef cook at several cafeterias and hotels and retired from the Sheraton Hotel. Alvin was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and served as an usher and member of the choir. He enjoyed watching boxing and fishing.


He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva, who died in March, 2011 and a great-granddaughter, Daiyanna Thompson.

Surviving family include, daughter, Albertine Thompson; sons, Alvin C. Fate, Jr. (Nicey), Stevie Fate and Dennis Fate of  Asheville; 14 grandchildren, 16great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bishop Harry Brown (Lottie) of Brunswick, Ga.; sisters, Doretha and Floretha Brown, Geraldine Brown-Green, Vernell Capers and Mary Harwell of New York; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mildred Dorsey; brother-in-law, Leroy Oliphant; other relatives and friends.
 
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Grant officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.
