Edward Lyles

 

Edward Lyles, 85, of 182 Flint St., died Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Edward was a native of Asheville and a son of the late Jack and Lizzie Prysock Lyles. He was a veteran of the U S Army and served during WW II. Edward was a former employee of the Asheville City Schools and retired after 31 years of service. He was also a part-time employee of Asheville Savings Bank with 35 years of service. Edward was a loving and caring father. 

Edward was preceded in death by a son, Edward, Jr. brother, Ray and sisters, Daisy Hickman and Jacquelyn Scott.

Surviving family include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Chapman Lyles; daughters, Sandra Harrison of Chicago, IL, Carolyn Foster of Washington, DC, Cynthia Gash of Covington, GA and Wendy Lyles of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Roy Lee Lyles of Wilmington, NC and Ricky Lyles of Fort Washington, MD; sisters, Ruth Walls of Atlanta, GA and Florence Green of Asheville; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Monday, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Grant officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
