

Elizabeth Charlene Smith known as Liz, Beth or Pumpkin, was born May 5, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA and died June 28, 2011 in Asheville, NC. She was a daughter of the late Jeanette and Louis Smith.
She attended and graduated from the Philadelphia Public School System in 1970 and shortly thereafter moved to Maryland with her older sister Teresa.
While in Maryland, Elizabeth started working for Giant Food and after 20 years of employmet, she moved to South Carolina to care for her aging mother.
30 years after receiving her high school diploma, Elizabeth returned to college to receive her nursing degree and graduated from Midlands Technical College in South Carolina in 2002.
Elizabeth loved to travel both inside and outside of the United States and in the past few years has done this quite frequently.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Teresa Walker Jenkins, a nephew, Vaughn Hall and a grandson, Ellis Crawford.
She leaves to Cherish her loving memory, a son, Eric James; daughters, Nicole James, Katrina Crawford (Roderick) and Ashley Smith; sisters, Natalie Smith and Renee Newby; brothers, Craig Smith, Bernard Smith and Vincent Smith; granddaughters, Nakyra Garrison and Erika James; grandsons, Eric James Jr. and Ethan Crawford; a very special friend, Arnold Kowanes. Elizabeth will be mourned by a host of extended family that include nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon, Sunday, July 3, 2011 in the chapel of Ray & Allen Funeral Service.
