He called my Mom every weekend! Along with a few faithfuls he was the one to keep her connected to home. He told her that he was tired. They talked about the passing of Mrs. Avery. Only a couple of days before his passing she talked to him! She is devastated in losing two friends so close in time. He will surely be missed. They are all together in peace and love.

Pat Hickey: Mr.
It's a testament to Rev. Chandler's warm and firm personality that he raised such wonderful children, many of whom were in my classes at Hill Street Middle School. Rev. Chandler would stop by the school from time to time to check on his children's academic and behavior. Of course, academics and behavior were never a problem!
Rev. Chandler will be sorely missed by all but may they be comforted knowing that he was such a fine man!

This evening I read in the newspaper of Pastor Chandler's passing. His death is a loss for all of us. Many claim they are Christians, but Pastor Chandler walked the walk. He cared deeply for others and his compassion and service to people was evident in everything he did. He was one of the hardest working people I've ever met. He loved God, his family, and everyone he met. The world would be so much better if there were more people like Joe Chandler. He was always so kind and considerate to me, I regret I will not be able to attend his funeral tomorrow. His passing is a time for sorrow for us but his faith was so sincere and he knew that the day he died he would be in the presence of God in heaven. May God be with his family during this very difficult time. All of our best and love to you!

To the Chandler and Bailey Families
I had a message from Joe two days before Christmas and tried to reach him on Christmas Day. He often called to say hello and what our friendship meant. I will miss the calls and most of all-him. We had great times in the Hill St. community and playing basball with the Asheville Aggies. Much love.

My children called him Mr. Chandler, and they did so with much affection and respect. Among other things, he was their bus driver and most imporantly their role model.
He liturally showed them the best view in Asheville many days on that ride, but he also showed them the best view of what it takes to be a special human being.
No doubt he has touched many lives including my family and me.

We were saddened to read of the death of Joe Chandler. He worked for the Asheville schools a number of years and was admired and appreciated by so many who knew him and worked with him. He will be missed in the community and in the and schools and churches in which he worked. He was of exemplary character and we respected his care and attention in seeking the best for his family and for his own professional growth through the years. Our
sympathies are with his family at this sad time.

To the Chandler family, I was very sadden to hear about "Sug" passing. He was a great leader
in the community and a champion for the youth.
He was an outstanding athlete and I will always
remember him playing left field for the Asheville Aggies on the Hill St. ball field and elsewhere. I saw him this past summer and had a chance to talk to him. I am really grateful for that. I will miss him.

I worked with Joe at Jones Elementary School many, many years ago. We both had twins and we shared experiences. Joe was one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was an incredible single dad and just a very caring person. I will always remember him as a wonderful, caring, loving human being. I would consider him to be a gentle soul. May God bless his soul and welcome him into Heaven. Rest in Peace Joe. You will be greatly missed. My prayers are with your family. Hugs to all of you. Carol Wagner

Minister Chandler will be sorely missed at Grace Health Care of Asheville, he came by to visit with the residents and staff on a regular basis, he always greeted you with a smile and a kind word. To the family I know your hearts are heavy and the days seem so empty now, but look to the heavens for there lies your strength. He lives on in your hearts and your many fond loving memories. Joe Chandler was an incredible gentleman. He brought smiles and comfort each evening as he made his rounds here at the Court House. There is a definate feeling of loss in our hearts. He is sorely missed here though we know that Joe lived by Philippians 1:23-24 - I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. - Joe is with Christ and we will retain his memory. Thank you for sharing him with us.
