Vernon Greene, Sr.
Vernon Green, Sr. 86, of 190 Jordan Rd. passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2012. He was a native of Marion, NC. Vernon established and operated Greene Concrete Finishers for over 40 years, providing jobs for many in the community. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, who died in 2008.
Surviving family include his son, Vernon Greene, Jr. (Margaret); brothers, Joseph and Steven (Ed) Greene of Asheville and Julius Greene of St. Petersburg, Fla; sisters, Mary Askew of Columbus, Oh, Pearl Kibby of Atlanta, Ga and Dollie Gravely of Hendersonville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Thursday, New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. James Lytle officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Buncombe County Veterans Volunteer Council providing military rites. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Wednesday at Ray & Allen Funeral Service.
